The mission of Savannah Federal is to provide professional yet personal service, based on the sound financial policies that balance the Credit Union's philosophy with maximization of return to its members.
Savannah Federal was founded, in 1931, by eight members of the Army Corps of Engineers. The charter members originally founded the Credit Union to serve the Army Corps of Engineers and other federal employees in Chatham County.
In 1983, Savannah Federal opened its membership to the employees of Armstrong State University, now Georgia Southern. With the experience gained from the Armstrong partnership, Savannah Federal was able to add The Savannah College of Art and Design to its field of membership in 1999. Since 2002, Savannah Federal has further expanded its field of membership to include the Sullivan's Administrative Managers, the Telfair Museum of Art, and Kessler Corp in Chatham, Bryan, Effingham, and Liberty Counties in Georgia. In addition to their Jasper and Hampton County locations in South Carolina.
2018 brought about a change for Savannah Federal. Looking to further serve our members and improve the products and services offered, Savannah Federal began seeking a partner credit union to merge with. In August of 2018, Savannah Federal members voted to merge with CORE Credit Union in Bulloch County. The combining of the two Credit Unions provided Savannah Federal members with access to a full range of loan and deposit products. In addition to the products and services offered, members also gained access to the CO-OP Shared Branch network, the second largest branch network in the country.
